ruangrupa was formed by 7 artists from Jakarta. ruangrupa provides and arranges an autonomous art workspace for artists to live and work intensively within a certain period of time. It is open for any (visual) artist (group and individuals, Indonesian and foreign) who is willing to work in co-operation with ruangrupa and are enthusiastic about sharing different opinions; exploring and experimenting the artist's interaction with Jakarta urban life.
ruangrupa organises artist residencies, workshops, a journal and a web site.
"Karbon" is the three monthly journal published as an output media for all ruangrupas activities and observations. The journal will focus
on art and cultural essays that relate to the artist residencies and the workshop
projects, as part of our research and documentation.
